Continuing along the western shore of the Dead Sea, we enjoy a stop at Masada, the magnificent fortress built by King Herod. Ascending the area by cable car, visitors are able to survey the ruins of the fortifications, waterworks, synagogue, temples and palaces. Our pilgrimage today will proceed down the Old Palm Sunday Road (Mark 11:1-11) to the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus spent His last hours among the now ancient olive grove (Matt. 26: 30-46), and the Church of Agony, where tradition holds that Jesus prayed. Now we descend down the Palm Sunday Road to the Garden of Gethsemane. We take a short walk to the south side of the Temple Mount to visit the ancient ruins of the Southern Steps.
