In the afternoon, we arrive in Beijing, the historic capital of China. Our representative will meet and assist us at Beijing airport and then we will transfer by our private deluxe motorcoach to our luxury hotel. The balance of the day is free for you to relax after our long journey.
There is a certain magic surrounding Beijing. Images of the world-renowned Great Wall, the treasure of the Peking Opera, and the grandeur of the Forbidden City await you. Since the time of Marco Polo, Beijing has held a mystique that has fascinated travelers from around the world.
Discover Beijing’s history and culture this morning with our English-speaking guide. We begin our sightseeing tour by exploring Tiananmen Square. The Five-Star Red Flag and the Monument to the People’s Heroes dominate the center. Tens of thousands of people visit this square daily. Cross Chang’an Jie, the famous thoroughfare of Beijing, and enter the Forbidden City. Majestic walls surround the 250-acre city now known as the Imperial Palace Museum. Many of its buildings house historic treasures from throughout China. It is easy to imagine state occasions with rows of silk-gowned ministers and high officials kneeling in the Hall of Supreme Harmony. You are walking in the footsteps of the last emperor.
Next, we drive outside Beijing to the extraordinary Great Wall of China. Begun 2,000 years ago, this massive structure once stretched 4,000 miles from the Shanghaiguan Pass on the east coast to Jiayuguan Pass in the Gobi Desert. After our tour, we return to our hotel in the afternoon.
6:00 PM: At a welcoming reception, we will enjoy hot and cold hors d’oeuvres and drinks as well as a buffet dinner at our hotel.
On these two days, we will have company visits in Beijing. The motorcoach and an English-speaking guide will be at the group’s disposal for both days.
This morning we will be transferred by our private deluxe motorcoach to Beijing airport for our flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival, we will be met by our representative and will transfer to our deluxe hotel.
Shanghai’s allure begins with a glamorous past. Once considered the ‘Paris of the East,’ today Shanghai is once again considered China’s most fashionable city. Domestic stores rub shoulders with the boutiques of Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior, and the waterfront boulevard known as ‘the Bund’ highlights the city’s street life.
This afternoon we will be taken on a sightseeing tour of Shanghai, where we will visit the busy dock and business areas of the commercial heart of China. We will view bronze, jade, ivory, and paintings representing all of China’s dynasties at the Museum of Shanghai. We will also see the charming Children’s Palace, a unique school providing after-school education for children ages six to sixteen; and the Yu Gardens.
On these two days, we will have company visits in Shanghai. The motorcoach and an English-speaking guide will be at the group’s disposal for both days.
At our farewell dinner on Friday evening, we will enjoy dinner and drinks.
The entire day is free to explore this lovely city independently.
Today we will transfer to the airport for our return flight home, crossing the International Date Line and arriving the same day. Our discovery of the mysteries and wonder of China, with its fascinating people, great beauty, and centuries of culture, will be a wonderful memory.
