Vietnam—a name too long associated with the horrors of war, has finally won its last battle—to capture the imagination of the traveling public. Elegant Hanoi now vies with its dynamic sister, Ho Chi Minh City (still fondly called Saigon by the locals), for the attention of visitors who are drawn by the eclectic mix of old and new. In both cities, the streets are jam-packed with motorbikes and scooters, often carrying entire families, and the markets are chaotically busy. Elsewhere, the scenes are timeless. Early morning on the Mekong Delta brings the daily floating markets where peddlers sell their fruits and vegetables. Everywhere the green patchwork of rice paddies stretches into the distance, broken only by the silhouette of water buffalo and conical-hatted farm workers bending down to tend the young plants. The soaring mountains in the north of the country tower over tiny villages where life continues much as it has done for centuries, with the villagers still proudly wearing their traditional costumes.
Day 2 |
HO CHI MINH – ME KHONG DELTA |
Following breakfast at our hotel, an English-speaking guide will take us on a sightseeing excursion to My Tho, which includes a boat trip to the Mekong River Islands. First, we drive to My Tho, a bustling town in the rich agricultural region of the Mekong Delta and visit the Vinh Trang Pagoda, a beautiful temple and a sanctuary for orphans and other needy children. Afterwards, we board a local boat to explore the islands of the Mekong, stopping at a fruit orchard to enjoy fruit and tea while listening to local music. The trip also includes a brief sampan ride through the tiny waterways that thread the island. We will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. After our tour, we drive back to our hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.
This morning we will enjoy a city sightseeing tour with our English-speaking guide. Saigon teems with energy, activity, and motion. Everywhere you look, modern life meets the traditional. The emerging modern skyline stands cheek to cheek with colonial buildings and traditional temples. Outside on the streets, young professionals zip by on motorcycles, chatting on cell phones; inside the quiet temple courtyards, worshippers pray amidst clouds of incense.
We begin our trek into modern history with a tour of the Reunification Palace. Formerly, it was the Independence Palace of the South Vietnamese president, but now it is the War Remnants Museum, which comprehensively documents the travails of the long Vietnam-American War. Afterwards, we drive to the historic center to visit the Emperor of Jade Pagoda, one of Saigon's most interesting pagodas. We will also pay a quick visit to the neo-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. We then pass by the classic European-style landmarks
such as the ornate City Hall and the old Opera House. Finally, we end up at the central Ben Thanh Market, where vendors display a vast array of goods and handicrafts.
The afternoon is free to explore this exciting city on our own. An International Dinner will be provided at our hotel this evening.
This morning the group will have a business meeting in a private function room at the Caravelle Hotel. Provided at the meeting will be one coffee/tea break, water throughout the meeting, a selection of mints, the use of a LCD projector with projection screen and a flip chart, and stationery.

Culture and heritage are what set Hong Kong apart from the rest of Asia—indeed the world. With 150 years of colonial history and a largely Chinese population, Hong Kong is a unique fusion of Western and Eastern cultures, where the old and the new live side by side. Its incense-filled temples, colonial buildings, and glass-and-steel skyscrapers, along with its ancient traditions and lively festivals, have made Hong Kong a living cultural experience.
Tonight we will enjoy a Welcome Dinner at the acclaimed ‘Pearl on the Peak Restaurant’ (located at the Victoria Peak with fantastic views of Hong Kong), including round-trip transfers by private motor coach.
